These devices combine body-powered mechanisms with myoelectric components in order to enhance the functional ability of an individual. Originally tailored for upper limp amputees, these devices are intended for those with amputations above the elbow, should disarticulation and forequarter amputations.
Such devices, more often incorporate a body-powered elbow and a myoelectric hand that function simultaneously to facilitate concurrent operation. However it is important to note that hybrid prostheses that incorporate myoelectric components are not suitable to be used in wet or dirty environments.
